Let's Fly

The first Sunday in January 2008 Unity Church of Gulf Breeze celebrated it’s 17th anniversary. I sometimes wonder what it
must have been like for the others that came before that I haven’t met or may never have the chance to meet. Some of our
members that were here have shared their experiences with me. I can‘t really know because I didn‘t have the experience, I
have looked through the photos and witnessed the evidence of  joy  expressing. What I do know very well is what I found in
the Unity movement. Early on it became evident to me that the practical approach and experience of strengthening love
found in Unity is more than a Sunday experience, it is a way of life. When I engaged in the Unity community I found a open,
supportive place where my hopes, dreams, disappointments and accomplishments were welcomed. I found a place where
quality of life is strengthened through spiritual principles. I found solutions. I became empowered. We have these same
qualities right here, right now, this is what we are doing at our church.
The fact that UGB has been around for 17 years says there continues to be a desire for this spiritual community. In the two
years that I have been here many new faces have become involved in our community. I want to know what they are hoping
for and what brings them back, how do you want to be involved in your church. I want to know these things not only about
our new folks, I want to know what those who have been around for a while are hoping for too. You will find a survey in this
edition of the newsletter please fill it out and bring it to church or mail it in. Our new members will have opportunity to have
dinner with me and the board, it will be a time to ask questions laugh and get to know each other better. There is a prayer
that is one of my favorites it starts “ I put my hand in yours and together we can do what we could not do alone” Our
possibilities are endless. We have honored the past plenty, we grow in wisdom from our past we are not attached to it, this
is a new day for us, let’s fly.

In Love and Joy

These are the lyrics to the song
"Everything is Holy now"
They speak to the heart

When I was a boy, each week On Sunday, we would go to church
And pay attention to the priest And he would read the Holy Word.
And consecrate the holy bread And everyone would kneel and bow
Today the only difference is Everything is holy now.

Everything, everything,
Everything is holy now . . .

When I was in Sunday school We would learn about the time
Moses split the sea in two Jesus made the water wine
And I remember feeling sad that miracles don"t happen still
But now I can"t keep track ,Cause everything"s a miracle

Everything, everything
Everything"s a miracle . . .
(bridge)
Wine from water is not so small
An even better magic trick
is that anything is here at all.
So the challenging thing becomes
not to look for miracles
but finding where there isn’t one.

Holy water was rare at best barely wet my finger tips
Now I have to hold my breath I’m swimming in a sea of it
Used to be a world half there Heaven’s second rate hand me downs
now I walk it with a reverent air, "cause everything"s holy now.

This morning outside I stood And saw a little red-winged bird
Shining like a burning bush Singing like a scripture verse
It made me want to bow my head and I remember when church let out -
how things have changed since then, everything is holy now.
Everything, everything
Everything is holy now
Everything, everything,
    Everything is holy now . . .
